Small Residence Boasts Two Bedrooms and Big Laundry
Another addition to the new ‘homes of Indianapolis that will be open for inspection this week-end is 5025 Baltimore Ave., constructed by the Paul McCord Co. The home is small and compact and is an answer to the demand here for such homes. All space has been utilized to its best advantage resulting in a comfortable two-bedroom home. ‘The living room and dining room are in a straight-line to increase the size of both rooms as much as possible. The front door is extra wide and there are two windows on two sides of the living room flooding the area with light. A: coat closet is located to the left of the entrance. Wall paper is soft with an off-white ceiling. Light from the living room and a

The front bedroom is decorated in blue flowered paper with an offwhite ceiling. The large clothes closet is papered to match. The rear bedroom is a twin size to the front bedroom and is: decorated in a soft paper with large flower designs. The bath which separates: the two bedrooms is painted yellow with white trim .and contains a large closet of shelves. The basement, reached by a door

the rear door, contains a large hot air furnace and large coal bin. There is enough space for an extra large laundry and social room. The garage, which is white frame to match the house, is reached by a graveled side drive.
{BOMB DEFENSE FOR NEW YORK PREPARED
New York City, nerve center of the Western Hemisphere, will not be caught unprepared by any possible war emergency such as an aerial bombardment. Plans have heen prepared and are ready for instant, protective action against any act of modern warfare. Among facts learned in drawing up these defense plans is that the roof of a skyscraper is less vulnerable to aerial bombardment than a room inside the building. This is due to_the stone and steel construction of - these buildings and the angle at which aerial bombs come down. In small towns and residential districts a necessary protection for homes against fires spread by war from the air is fire-resistant siding and fire-resistant roofing such as asphalt shingles.
INSULATION EMPHASIZED
In a recent survey conducted at | Salt Lake City, Utah, 27 per cent of the home owners questioned listed “more insulation” as one of the changes they would make if they
were to build again. The use of

Property owners who will repair and convert their houses to provide homes for defense workers dnd their families today were offered the advice of architects and technicians—without cost. : The offer was made by Robert M. Collier, state manager of the ‘Home| Owners’ Loan Corp. Mr. Collier said that the .cor-
|poration will supply technicians
who will inspect properties of applicants to advise them on the possibilities: of conversion and estimate the cost. If the job requires prepared plans and working drawings and needs supervision, arrangements can be made through the Home Owners’ Loan for a technician at}; a reasonable fee. ‘ Mr, Collier said, “The more use that can be made of present housing, the less ‘danger there will be of real estate headaches from overbuilding.” He added that there were many advantages in utilizing | ® existing houses because they already are adequately supplied with utilities, paved streets, schools and provision for recreation. He pointed out that even substandard dwellings may be converted into approved housing units through the technical assistance that now will be available.
