TONDON, Nov. 27.—The general

ry raised a fortnight ago over

‘the annuity fund supposedly paid to France's chief of state, Marshal

Henri Philippe Petain, by a Cana-|

dian insurance company has turned out to be a mare’s nest. The an-

‘nuity has not been sent. to Vichy but has been paid into a bank acgount here for Marshal Petain. . On Nov. 12 a question was asked in Parliament which revealed! the fact that a Canadian rance -eompany holds a policy taken out by Petain in 1937 and it was joffi-

cially admitted that ‘permission had |.

béen given for an. annuity ‘of 600 Pounds ($2400) annually to be sent to Marshal Petain.

* Inquiries subsequently rev aled that a policy was taken opt wi London branch of a Canadian ¢company. Government inquiries after the flurry appear - to have - rev aled that, despite thé fact that pe sion had been given: for the annuity to be: paid, the sums never been sent to Vichy.
