Anne Shirley Signs oe

By FREDERICK C. OTHMAN United Press Hollywood Correspondent

- HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 19 (U. P.).—

A" two-line announcement today says that Anne Shirley, actress, has signed a new seven-year contract with R-K-O studios. That’s all the announcement says, but it isn’t all of the story: Way back when Theda Bara lured the curly-headed gents to their flickery :doom and - Rudolph: ValenHing v was causing the femine customers to sigh, the widow Paris brought her 3-year-old youngster to Hollywood to get her a job in the movies. The child with the long yellow curls was named by her mother “Dawn O'Day”. and it wasn’t long before liftle Dawn ‘was looking beautiful -in the arms of such stalwarts as William Farnum, Tom Mix and many another. Dawn O'Day. spent her fwhole childhood in the movies. When: she was 15 she. went to R-K-O to play the part of Anne Shirley in “Anne

the studio, taking the name of the character she played. She grew up at R-K-O. She graduated’ from the studio high school, learning . her lessons on_ the run. ‘She’ married John Payne, the actor, and she kept on with roles of adolescence. She had a Laby and still she continued to be little Anne Shirley in the long celico skirts and the sunbonnets. Year piled upon year with Anne playing in at least half a dozen Movies every year’ and gradually grow ing up. So the experts gave her a new seven-year contract, the lead opposite George Murphy in “The Mayor of 44th Street” and a chore entirely new to her.. Sheé’s learning how to stand and to walk so that her legs, which heretofore have been invisible, will show up to best advantage. :

Henceforth she exude - sex

and. heavy love scenes,
