.For belles who take their fashion cues from the Romney portraits and choose the beguiling holiday dance frocks with shoulder ' capelines and drifting net skirts, the florists suggest scroll corsages of orchids, fragrant roses or gardenias pinned at the curve of the neckline. If you accent your party frock with the new opera length gloves, the new fashions in fresh flower bracelets inspired by precious jewelry designs can be counted on to point up your glamour. Spray orchids, camellias or entwined arrangements of rose petals or carnation petals are some of the new flower bracelet designs that can be telegraphed anywhere in the country. And when her brother invited ome + for her, the boy made a flimsy excuse — and Mary and her brother hoth knew ‘he just didn’t want to be. tied down to a girl he knew he would be stuck with for a whole evening. Mary cried all evening and her mother could have cried for her, but she didn’t. Instead she sat down and tried to figure out what was wrong with Mary, and where she had failed her. She decided that Mary had got off on the wrong foot with the kids of her age when she was only 10, and much too fat. Though her mother had, later on, seen that her weight was brought down to normal--Mary had already become a fat, unattractive girl in the minds of the boys and girls in her class.
s » =»
MARY WAS left out of things at the start. Her mother can see that now, though she didn’t think anything about it when Mary was just a child of 10. It ought to wake mothers up to the fact that in order for a girl or boy to be a sucessful “16,” he or she ought to be doing and learning at 10—or even at 6.
