DUTCH TO SABOTAGE INDIES IF INVADED

NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (U. P.)+ Maj. Gen. L. H. Van Oyen, commander of the air arm of the Royal Netherlands Indies Army, said today that every oil well and every city in the Dutch East Indies would be destroyed before they were permitted to fall into Japanese hands, Writing in the current issue of Flying and Popular Aviation, Gen. Van Oyen said: “The destruction of every oil well in the Netherlands East Indies is well prepared. We love our cities of Batavia, Bandoeng and Sourabaya, but we are prepared to blow them up with mines rather than let them fall into enemy hands.” But although Japan might thus be prevented from “acquiring the D. E. 1. oil flelds, the United States would |suffer through loss of defense materials from that part of the world should Dutch defenses prove inadequate. | ‘Pointing out that the United States bought $169, 074,000. worth of rubber and tin from the Indies last year, Gen. Van Oyen said it was to this country’s interest to sell military airplanes to the Dutch colonies.
