THREATEN STRIKE + AT 2 PLANE PLANTS
By UNITED PRESS . A few hundred welders forced a showdown today on bargaining rights at two huge aircraft plants employing 72,000 men and the United Federal Workers of America (C. I. 0.) opened an all-out organizational campaign among 1,250,000 Government employees. "The United Aircraft Welders, an independent union, served notice on the National Labor Relations Board that a strike would be called at midnight tomorrow unless the board ordered a bargaining election at the Lockheed-Vega factory at Los Angeles and at Consolidated Aircraft at San Diego. The latter plan has $750,000,000 in defense orders. The new C. I. O, drive among employees of the Government, which is the nation’s largest employer, has as its goal 1,000,000 C. I. O. memers. Meanwhile, the National Defense Mediation Board opened an executive session at Washington in an effort to reach a compromise on the explosive union shop issue between John L. Lewis’ United Mine Workers (C. I. O,) and the major steel companies.

Ex-Associate of Senator ‘Says He Gave Money To Judge’s Friend.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (U. P).— James Mulloy, former associate of
{Senator William Langer (R. N. D.),
told a Senate Committee today that he received $1700 or $1800 from Langer at the time of Langer’s sec ond trial on conspiracy charges in 1035, which he turned over to a friend of the presiding judge. The money, Mulloy said, was given to the late Chet Leedom, former U. S. Marshal for South Dakota. He said part of the money—at least $250 in cash and a Langer check for $275— went to Gale Wyman, Deadwood, S. D., attorney and son of the presiding judge, A. Lee Wyman, of Sioux Falls, 8. D. Leedom, Mulloy said, was a longtime personal friend of Judge Wyman and he and the judge's son, at their first meeting relative to the Langer case “impressed me with
'|the good they could do and the in-
flyence they would have.” Mulloy’s: testimony was given before the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee, which began public hearings on charges that Langer, because of moral turpitude, is unfit to sit in the Senate. In 1934 Langer was convicted on a charge of conspiracy to misuse Federal relief funds but a circuit court set aside the judgment and ordered, a new trial, It was over the second trial, which resulted in a jury disagreement, that Judge Wyman presided.
