200 Expected at School; Added Emphasis Put On Leadership.

One of the major Scouting activifies of the year, the semi-annual ‘training course for Scouters and Cubbers, gets under way Monday might at Manual Training High School.

The course, in which Scout leaders are trained in all phases of Scout and Cub leadership, takes on an added emph this year be-

cause of the chaotic conditions in|’

the world. The course is held twice each so that Scout leaders may be Becter equipped to pass on to the youths in their charge a constructive program of character devel opment and citizenship training. 200 Expected to Attend

. More than 200 persons in the . Central Indiana Council of the Boy Scouts are expected to attend the school which will be held for six consecutive ,Monday nights. Each evening's sessions will begin at 7:30 p- m. and wil] last two hours. Scout officials believe that the preservation of democracy and the American way of life depends on the acceptance by adults of individual responsibility for training ‘and guiding Tuture citizens ~— the youth of today. The courses are divided into six units, with an experienced Scouter at the head of each unit. He will be aided in the sessions- by professional members of the Boy Scouts. Unit Leaders Chosen

THREE ROUND TABLE discus“gions of Scoutmasters are scheduled for next week. The North District will meet Tuesday in the North Methodist Church to hold a general discussion of the Council program. Approximtaely 55 Scoutmasters and Cubmasters are expected and W. W. Miller will preside. Forty Scoutmasters and Cubmasfers of the West District will meet the following night at the Hawthorne Community Center. The East District will hold its session Thursday night in the auditorium of St. Philip Neri School. Seventy Ecoutmasters, including district commissioners, will attend. Max Darmstandler, district commissioner, wil} preside.

FUND GOAL SET IN BEECH GROVE

Needy in Community Operis Tomorrow.

A goal of $300 was set today for the Beech Grove Community Fund drive to finance ‘the community’s Emergency Relief Organization for the coming year. A Beech Grove institution for the last 12 years, the relief organization was created to provide food, coal and shelter for families made needy by sudden emergencies until township relief could step. in. The drive for funds will open tomorrow and continue until Dec. 1. Contributions may be made at City Hall to Capts. Odell Driskell or Hubert A. Terrell’ of the Fire Department -or to any member of the committee. The committee sponsoring the campaign includes Mayor Charles Adams, president; Vernon Little, financial secretary; Capts. Driskell and Terrell, co-treasurers, and Mrs. Charles Goddard, L. Bi Mann an& Mrs. Carl Dunlap, publicity. Volunteer workers for the fund soon will contact residents and business houses in the community. Fund officers believe the $300 goal will not be hard to reach if everyone contributes.
