Royce, director of the Bureau’s livestock marketing department, has several reasons for this. Probably most important among these is that it is more profitable now to feed corn to hogs (because of the good

The .second thing that is dis couraging farmers from feeding more cattle is the present high prices they must pay to replace the cattle they sell. Mr. Royce points out that. feeder ‘stock from ‘the Western ranges now costs the Indiana farmer more than he is receiving for his finished cattle. But Mr. Royce believes the price outlook for highquality cattle next year is good, ‘especially in the latter part of the year. In the months of July, August and September last year, Indiana farmers bought about 60,000 head of cattle to feed and sell later. This year they have bought only 37,000 head. Green, head of the Industrial division of the C. of C., discovered that one manufacturer had 25,‘000 pounds of scrap steel sheets, some of it the much-prized stainless steel. oo hmgh the steel was scrap, it good-sized pieces that might Ib ie enough to stamp out small pieces. So Mr. Green put a notice at it in the defense bulletin he sends to manufacturers in this area, hoping to help out some firm needing such shee steel.
