INDIANA FARMERS ARE SHIFTING from cattle and lamb raising to heavier production of hogs, according to the Indiana Farm Bureau. H. L. Royce, director of the Bureau’s livestock marketing department, has several reasons for this. Reveipts Bulge . to 11,200 ‘Head, Largest for Any Market.
The .second thing that is dis couraging farmers from feeding more cattle is the present high prices they must pay to replace the cattle they sell. Mr. Royce points out that. feeder ‘stock from ‘the Western ranges now costs the Indiana farmer more than he is receiving for his finished cattle. But Mr. Royce believes the price outlook for highquality cattle next year is good, ‘especially in the latter part of the year. In the months of July, August and September last year, Indiana farmers bought about 60,000 head of cattle to feed and sell later. This year they have bought only 37,000 head.
