| § CHICAGO, Oct. 22 (U. P).—One i reason for the great success of the “ Chicago Bears in the national football league is the fact that Owner- = Coach George Halas has pieced to- § gether a balanced team and depends .. On no one man. When it comes to individual statistics, tHe Bears are almost nonen- = tities. ' Bill Osmanski, Bears leading 1% ball carrier, is seventh. in the league, Sid Luckman is third in league passing, no Bear receiver ranks in| the ms 3s. Bob | Suyter is fifth “= among goa ers and George + McAfee, considered the best broken field runner in the game, is third among the scorers. Green Bay, meanwhile, still maintains leaders in passing, receiving, & one-two in scoring and the tops in field goal Kicking—the big reason the

‘Perfect Record - Today his finely-drilled, versatile Red and Blue squad is one one of the 16 major perfect-record squads in the nation. The Quakers opened the season as a dark horse. They had won the Ivy crown in 1940 but Frank Reagan, one of the year’s best offensive backs, had been the biggest reason. With Reagan graduated, the Penn outlook wasn't too bright. Munger lost 19 men in all vom that 1940 team but he started right out by humbling Harvard, 19-0. Then he turned back Yale, 28-13, and on Saturday he took the third leg of the Big Three apart even easier. Penn blanked Princeton, 23-0, and looked bigger, faster and strongjer than ever. In fact, the Quakers were easier on tHe eye than any Penn team in a decade. A man with time on his hands might easily have discovered that winning is a Munger habit. This youngster—he is only 30 years old— first broke into Philadelphia’s consciousness as a prep star at Episcopal Academy, whege he was a fourletter man. His press clippings weren't just false alarms, either. He enrolled at Penn and he’ played halfback for three years straight, taking time out to win the Penn Relay decathlon title and the American shuttle hurdle crown.
Makes Good Twice Since then, Munger has made good not once but twice. First he returned to Episcopal as football coach in 1934 and promptly, produced an unbeaten team. | In three years at the Academy, he lost only two games—and Penn took the hint. The Quakers called him back as freshman coach in 1936, and Munger did it again. His first team was not only undefeated |. and untied, but unscored on, and in 1937, he lost only a single encounter. In 1938 Munger moved upstairs to succeed Harvey Harman, and his job wasn’t an easy one. The 1937 Penn team had defeated only Navy and Maryland. The rookie coach bettered this record at once by winning three, tying three and losing only two in 1938. In 1939 he split even at four 1and four, but last yedr he came back to conquer Cornell and five other opponents while losing only to Michigan. This year Penn is on the road back to the Réd and Blue glories of

Tony Musto in two rounds—a chore that consumed nine rounds of Louis’ time. Franklin has had 23 knockouts in 33 fights and was a Golden Gloves champion in 1937. All this seems extremely impressive and if Mr. Hurley had just stopped there, he might have made | out quite a case for his man. But he took a full wind-up and said that Franklin would knock out Joe Louis if and when they ever got into the same ring. The reason, he sald, is ‘that Franklin would ' hit Louis first and hit him hard. What Louis would be Seing while all his oo body mayhem was under way Mr. Hurley | did not stipulate.
