The Rev. Gilbert Appelhof Jr. of Alma, ‘Mich., author of‘ the. new book, “You Can Be Happily Married, » will speak both days. The ‘Rev. Mr. Appelhof is the father of three children.

The institute was inaugurated by the family life committee of the Indianapolis Council of Churchwomen, Mrs. A. M. Welchons, committee chairman, and Mrs” Asa Hoy, council president. Mrs. Virgil Sly is in charge of the program and Miss Nellie Young is institute chairman. Tuesday, the Rev. Mr. Appelhof will give the address “The Christian Home in a Changing World,” at 10:30 a. m.; “What Youth Wants to Know About Marriage,” at lunchpon; and “The Church's Place in Family Life,” at 2:30 p. m. “Some Common Marriage Problems and How to Solve Them,” will be his 6:30 p. m. subject and “How to Establish the Christian Home,” that ~ for 8:30 p. m. An 11 a. m. ‘discussion group on “Pre-marital Interviews and Counseling” will be led by the Rev. Mr. Appelthof with the Rev. R.’E. Mueller assisting. One will deal “With the Defense Program,” under the direction of Chaplain Eldon Huchison of Ft. Benjamin Harrison and Mrs. O. S. Flick, assisting. Another subject will be “With the Adolescent Boy and Girl,” led by Rabbi Maurice Goldblatt with Mrs. E. A. Piepenbrok assisting.

Mrs. W. Shirley will lead the discussion, by the Junior Child,” assisted by Mrs. Walter Baxter. Mrs. Clayton Ridge will discuss “With Youth in Their Later Teens,” with Mrs. BE. L. Eggers of Hammond, Ind, assisting; and Mrs. F. Marion Smith will present “The Pre-School Child,” with Mrs. Russell Abdon assisting. All assistants will keep secretary's minutes and report later. Mrs. J. H. Smiley will lead the consecration service at the afternoon service. Mrs. Hoy will preside at luncheon; Mrs. Sly, in the morning: Floyd Hunter in the afternoon, and Mrs. Donald Boyd in the eveying. A dinner will be held fer unmarried young people Wednesday after which the Rev. Mr. Appelhof will speak on “Things That Count in Courtship” at 7:30, and on “When & Couple Is Engaged” at 8:30 p. m.

Agencies Co-operate

Agencies co-operating in addition to local and State churchwomen are parent-teacher groups of Indiana, the Church Federation, the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, the Indianapolis Council of Social Agencies, the Family Welfare Society, the Y. M. C.. A, the Y. W. C. A, the Seventh District Federation of Clubs, the Woman's Department Club and the Marion County Council of Christian Education.

Dr. J. M. Horton, new executive secretary of the Indiana Baptist Convention, will give the morning address at the dedication of the recently erected educational building, tomorrow, ‘at the Southport Baptist Church. Dr. Clive McGuire, executive secretary of the Indianapolis Association, ‘will speak in the afternoon and Dr. T. J. Parsons, predecessor of the Rev. Mr. Horton, will give the dedicatory prayer in the morning. The Rev. A Western Union official is to be present, supervise the writing of the message and explain how it will travel on its way. To make the experience more vivid, a ‘uniformed messenger will also be on hand.
