RULES AGAINST CITY INSURING. WORKERS

Indiana cities may not take out insurance to. cover the cost of caring for policemen and firemen injured in the. line of duty, Attorney General George Beamer ruled today. In an opinion to State Examiner Otto K. Jensen, Mr. Beamer pointed out that| the law provides that such expenditures must be paid for from the City. general fund. In another opinion to Tax Board Chairman Henry S. Murray, Mr. Beamer advised that salaries of policemen" and firemen may be increased, after fhe budget has been made up, by City Council. The salaries of employees paid by the hour from a Jump sum appropriation also may be increased during the budget year but salaries fixed by the Mayor at the time.the budget isl made up may not be increased, Mr. Beamer said.

MRS. MARY PARKER IS DEAD AT KOKOMO

Mrs. Mary F. Parker, former resident here for 20 years, died yesterday at Kokomo. She was 62. She was the widow of C. M. Parker, former attorney here and an expostmaster at Tipton, who died two years ago. Mrs. Parker had been a member of St. Philip Neri Church 5 here. The family moved to Kokomo in 1937. EMBEZZLER SENTENCED Howard Yearian, 31, was sentenced to four years in prison in Criminal Court today after he pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzling $5700 from Irvin Cooper, operator of an Indianapolis tire shop. Yearian also was fined $256 and costs by Judge Dewey E. Myers.
