Railroad men here say most of this increase is due, in some way or other, to national defense manufacturing. One said that there was a big increase in shipment of coke manufactured here and sent to the steel mills, Scrap paper shipments have picked up. Automobile parts and body concerns have been busier than usual most of the time. Another thing, large quantities of gravel have been sent from here to build new roads throughout ‘the state and for use in defense such as the Jefferson Ord--nance Proving Ground near Madison.
