S HE PLAYS WITH SYMPHONY
MONTREAL, Oct. 11 (U. P).— One of the ambitions of Bugene Schneider, 59, viola teacher, was to play in a concert conducted by Bruno Walter. This week, Walter conducted the Montreal . Symphony Orchestra— and Mr. Schneider was in the string section. They were playing the first movement of Brahms Symphony No. 1, one of Mr. Schneider's favorite works. In the midst of it a slight noise ‘was heard. Two musicians quietly laid down their instruments and carried him off the stage. The concert continued without a break. Mr. Schneider was dead, of a heart attack. His wife said he had been excited all week over the prospect of playing under Mr. Wal-| , ter—before the concert his excitement reached such a piteh that be| she tried to persuade him not to

Filled With Fine Humor
It t's a Human: Account of The Pilots Who Are . Doing Battle
It’s a pleasure to describe “A Yank in the R.A. F.” as a light-
a tiring account -of ‘British bravery or of their methods of training pilots. Too many of the first war pictures bogged down under the weight of what they were trying to depict. For too long it seemed that the only relief from this might be the slapstick comedy. : The movie now at the Indiana, however, isa fine example of how the problem was solved. It. deals with matters of the greatest import in a gay manner and there is a great ‘deal to: be said for this technique. After all, we all know that the British are in a tight spot. We don’t need an hour-and-a-half lecture on the subject.
It’s Human Account
What we needed was a more human account of the men whe were doing the fighting. “A Yank in the R. A. F.” fills- the bill. Tyrone Power is a brash young Amerjcan flier who joins the R. A. F. merely to impress a chorus girlfriend, Betty Grable. Thanks to Director Henry King, Mr, Power is a brash, young fellow, ‘unreliable and happy - go - lucky, throughout most of the film. : It is only when ‘one of his buddies dies in trying to save the Yank’s plane that Pilot Power realizes just what makes the British fight.
Climax at Dunkirk
After that, he goes into the battle of Dunkirk and there is where the picture réaches a great climax. The scenes of that heroic‘ evacuation were designed after actual pictures sent to 20th Century-Fox by the British Air Ministry. War-weary soldiers cover the beach on the fateful mid-July Sunday afternoon and the Stukas unmercifully spit death from the skies. the ships come to rescue the “hopelessly trapped” army
tribute to British courage. But to say that it is Propaganda. in a pure sense, is only reaching for an argument. It is principally the story of an American flier and his chorus girl sweetheart.
Fine Performances
And for some reason, Mr. Power as the Yank and Miss Grable as the chorus girl give suprisingly e®cellent performances. Mr. Power gives one of his best.portrayals in Hollywood to date. Miss Grable is a distinct surprise. There are places where you may long for Hoke action but nonetheless, here is a film that is worth
