Holdup Thwarted, Jumps Into Canal
HAVING BEEN disarmed when he was attempting to hold up a barbecue stand yesterday on W. Vermont St. John Rodigere, 25-year-old Mexican, ran from the scenie, jumped into the Canal and was drowned yesterday. His body, discovered while police were investigating the attempted holdup, was identified as one of two men who a short while before had attempted to rob John Montgomery, 47, proprieier of the stand. While they were demanding $20 from Montgomery, Harry Vance, who saw the holdup, slipped up from behind and disarmed them of their rifle and knife. They fled when Montgomery then produced a revolver and began firing. Police are holding on a charge of vagrancy a man they say was Rodigere’s companion.
TELESCOPES TURNED ON ‘BOMBER WRECK’
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz, Oct. 6 (U. P.). —What appeared to be the wreck of

He said he would obtain powerful telescopes from the Arizona State Teachers College observatory here and scrutinize the object. If it is the missing bomber, it probably can be reached by automobile within a few hours, he said.
