FAMILY BUDGET
More Is Spent : Only for Food and Housing, Survey Shows.
By Science Service Nig
WASHINGTON, Oct. 3. — The family auto gets the family dough. isn’t the way Government statisticians put it, but their latest figures on how Americans get around show that thé average farm, village or small-city family of good
income now spends more on automobile transportation than on any other item except food and housing. Nine families in 10 in American cities and towns of all sizes own a car, if they have an income above $2500, the survey shows. Farm families have become so 'automobileminded that relatively rhore such families own cars than families living in villages and small towns. Leading items in American family budgets in willages and small cities used to. be food, housing, household operation and clothing. Now, the family in good circumstances tends to spend as much or more on the car than Slothing =i He family lives in a village or small y.

Three Series of Lincoins
THE 1042 LINCOLNS are presented in three series, new in body styling and appointment, and higher in power. . By redesigning springs and using 15-inch wheels the overall height has been reduced without sacrificing head room or road clearance. Eme phasizing the height decrease are new elements of outside trim. A heavy horizontal grille of rustless steel extends across the full width of the front. Fenders are highe crowned and widely flared and the front fenders bear built-in heade lamps with rustless steel rims and rectangular parking lamps which also serve as direction indicator lights. Door handles are no more. Pushe button latch controls now are stane dard; inside and out, on doors of all three series and on the luggage compartments. Four body selections are offered in the medium-priced Lincoln= Zephyr series. The Lincoln-Contine ental comes in two. body choices; and the Lincoln-Custom series comes in two types. Changes in the high co ession . V-12 engine include a new’ obutpuk of 130 horsepower (10 more than last year) obtained by increasing cylin-gm der displacement.
