BRIDE FROM THE SKY |
"By HELEN WELSHIMER
THE STORY: Associate magazine editor Judy Allen was congratulating herself on having her life all figured out—marriage with wealthy. attorney Philip Rogers, handsome and dependable; a continued career; a complete forgetting of her infatuation for dashing and impulsive Sandy Ammerman, aviator, whom she thought she loved until newspapers linked him romantically with heiress Peg Gordan. But Sandy is not to be shelved so simply. The day of her wedding he appears, asks her to coms with him, kidnaps her when she refuses. On the ride to a nearby airport, Judy, bound and gagged, is now sure it is

CHAPTER SIXTEEN
AS Quickly as Sandy deposited
Judy into the cabin he released her hands and legs, removed the gag from her mouth, and motioned to the man on guard to keep an eye on the girl until he started to taxi down the field. It seemed to Judy, screaming, talking, clying, biting ‘her lips in anger, that the ship went straight up. Sandy turned around grinned at her. “Happy?” -he asked. : “Ecstatic!” she answered in a maddened voice. “I hate you!” “Nice to know that you're thinking about me.” His voice was gay and irresponsible. “Grand view, don’t you think?” She looked over the side of the plane unconsciously, Oh, yes, it was a wonderful view. Tens of thousands of people moved down there, free to get married, or go : shopping, or telephone the police, or do anything they felt like doing. People who knew all about stability and safety and fires and candlelight and how much it cost to have a wedding with bridesmaids wearing cherry flounces and . both a bridal cake and a wedding cake and a husband you met at ~. the altar. : Maybe if she kept her voice steady she could make Sandy obey her. / “Sandy.” Tenderness, softness, intrigue hidden behind ‘the cadent consonants, wrapped themselves around the name. : “Yes, Mata Hari?" the friendly Voice in front answered. “If you didn’t have on your helmet and weren't too far away, I'd

“Sandy,” her voice echoed again, “please let’s go down. It's time for the wedding. Why, I won't ‘even have a chance to powder my nose.”
“Anyway, your lips will be dim |
rose and virginal. Most lips, brides’ lips, I mean, look like bright strawberries.” : wl 8 8 = :
