FEDER, NAZI PARTY CO-FOUNDER, DEAD

BERLIN, Sept. 26 (U. P.).—Gottfried Feder, 58, a co-founder of the Nazi Party and one of Hitler’s original “brain trusters,” died yesterday at his home in Upper Bavaria after a long illness, the official DNB agency reported from Munich today. Feder greatly influenced Hitler's conception of finance and formerly served as Secretary of State in the Economics Ministry, Reich Commissar for settlement projects and as a member of the Reichstag. In 1936 he retired from public life except for a post as professor of construction projects in the Berlin Technical College. Feder, professionally a construction engineer, gained fame and influence in Germany with his treatise, “Manifest on the Breaking of Interest Bondage.”

RITES IN WHITE HOUSE FOR HALL ROOSEVELT

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (U. P.). —Funeral services will be held this afternoon in the East Room of the White House for G. Hall Roosevelt,

the only brother of Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hall Roosevelt, 51-year-old war veteran and engineer, died yesterday of a chronic liver disease. The services at 3 p. m. will be conducted by Capt. J. C. W. Linsley, chaplain-at the Ft. Myer, Va., Army post, while on leave of absence as vicar of All Saints Episcopal Cathedral, Indianapolis. Only immediate members of the family will attend.

FDR ENCOURAGED BY LEGION ACTION

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (U. P.). —President Roosevelt declared today that he was “very much heartened and encouraged” by the American Legion's decision to support his international policies. He converted his thanks personally to the new Legion commander, Lynn U. Stambaugh of Fargo, N. D., who called at the White House today to inform the President of the supporting resolutions adopted by the Legion’s national convention at Milwaukee.

P.) —The same storm that destroyed millions of dollars worth of property in Texas and Louisiana earlier in the week left a trail of damage, death and fire in Ontario today. Three persons were killed, many were injured, and buildings, telephone, telegraph and power lines, trees and boats were mauled.

BLOCK ISLAND, R. I, Sept. 26 (U. P.) —Coast Guards removed the 4l-man crew from the 3000-ton freighter Essex today a few hours after she was beached on Southeast Light Shoals when battering seas threatened to sink Her. “It looks as though she’s going to stay there,” said Coast Guards who previously had reported an attempt would be made by salvagers to float the Essex. The crew of the Essex first refused to abandon their 51-year-old ship, which had 30 feet of water in her engine rooms when the Coast Guard cutter Argo reached the scene. When the half-century old freighter radioed an S-O-S she reported she was filling rapidly with water. She was beached a short time later. The ship was loaded with 600 tons of cork and 500 tons of sand ballast.

NO TRACE FOUND OF SINKING STEAMER

SAN JUAN, P. R,, Sept. 26 (U. Py). —Hope waned today for the little steamship Libby Maine, which had radioed it was sinking in a raging hurricane in the Caribbean with a crew of about 20 men. The naval radio station here received a message last night from the destroyer Roper, which reported having searched all day without finding a trace of the ship. Two navy planes and the coast guard cutter Unalga also were searching. The Libby Maine radioed for immediate aid about noon yesterday, and gave its location as 150 miles north of the Gulf of Venezuela,
