Support of the City’s new rush Ir parking bans was pledged to«ay in a resolution adopted by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Balety Council's engineering adcommittee. > : The action was taken after the committee heard the report of City Traffic Engineer James E. Loer yesterday. Mr. Loer cited the increasing flow of traffic as necessitating the parking bans. The advisory group suggested the establishment of parking lots in eommunity business centers and asked the Zoning Board to encourage such a move. The committee’s resolution followed a protest from E. Michigan 8t. businessmen at last week's City Council meeting. The remonstrators said the bans were injuring their businesses. £ The rush-hour ban applies to parking on 14 principal -thoroughfares between the hours of 7 to 9 a. m. and 4:30 to 6 p. m. The Committee's resolution asked merchant groups to give the limited plan a six-month trial, during which Mr. Loer will study the results on trafic movement. The Committee said it was not its desire to .impose a hardship on neighborhood merchants, but that it believed the parking bans might be the solution to the City’s problem of traffic movement. ~~

AUTO THIEVES SENTENCED MARION, Ind. Sept. 26 (U. P.).— Norman South, 21, Hamilton, O., and Jack Horton, 20, LaJunta, Colo., who police said were confessed army deserters from Camp Custer, Mich. today faced sentences of one year each at the State Penal Farm for Vehicle taking. They were arrested Saturday at Columbia City.

The corporal marches with his squad at the Presidio in San Francisco. Miss Wright displays her charms in movies here. He has become, consequently, the telephone company’s best customer in the west, as well as California’s most consistent charterer of private airplanes. Only three weeks ago he had to choose between losing 30 minutes more at the side of the lissome Miss Wright, or hiring for $1300 a plane to escape being A. W. O. L. The corporal unhesitating chose the extra half hour with his lady love and spent the $1300. ; When he got back to his post with minutes to spare, he announced his engagement to Miss Wright. Her mother, who calls herself Cobina Wright Sr., said the corporal’s claims of impending marriage were preposterous. “Gosh,” said the-corporal, adding that he wished he'd never opened his big mouth.
