Consolidated Craft Limps Halfway Across Atlantic In Crippled Condition.

SAN DIEGO, Cal, Sept. 25 — (U. and six hours later landed safely at a base in England. ‘The story of the plane’s mishap was relayed to Consolidated by L. J. Brain of Qiantas Empire Airways, Ltd. of Sydney, Australia. When the plane went into the spin the starboard aileron broke loose and the craft seemed doomed,

{the crew said, but then the other

aileron also broke off and served to balance the ship just as it was diving towards the ocean. At 800 feet the pilot leveled off the ship. Through expert handling, the pilot andy co-pilot, working. together constantly, were able to bring the ship to its base.

New massiveness characterizes the Chevrolet for 1942 announced today. The new Chevrolet is presented in three lines ranging from an economy model to a luxury line. As in the past, the car is presented in the Master Deluxe and Special*Deluxe series. troduced in mid-season last year in the sedan only, again is represented- by the sedan — the Sport-

Aerosedan. Though wheelbase on all models remains at 116”, stylists have made the over-all length 195%” creating a long, low, sleek looking car, A new, lower, wider, more massive grille with heavier bars increases the impression of bigness as does the blunter, deeper hood, the front splash shield and more widely spaced headlights. Greater length is achieved by the new elongated front fenders which flow back into the front doors, swinging witn the doors as they are opened. There have been only minor refinements in the engine so that the

power output remains virtually the same. Hood side panels are an integral part of the hood top and are raised- with the hood, making the engine easier to reach. Chevrolet's hydraulic brakes now carry a mechanically operated stop light switch, replacing - the former hydraulic-operated device, so that fluid leakage -cannot cause stoplight failure. The vacuum-powered shift originated by Chevrolet, and a feature for the past three years, is retained. One of the accessories developed particularly for the 1942 models is a new wheel disc painted white which creates an effect: similar to that achieved with white-sidewall tires. The 1942 lines and models are: Fleetline Series — Sportmaster Sedan and Aerosedan. Special Deluxe Series—Sport Sedan, Town Sedan, Five-Passenger Coupe, Business Coupe, “Cabriolet and Station Wagon.
