TRUTH ON NAZIS
Acourracy No Justification
* Of ‘Anti-Hitler Films, Says Probe Chief.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 18 (U. PJ). —Chairman D. Worth Clark (D.
Ida.) .of the Senate subcommittee
investigating the movie industry to-|}
day denied the contention of fin producers that “truth” is: justifica-
_ ,tion for producing - anti-Nazi pic-
tures. Wendell L. willkie, counsel for ‘the movie industry, has stated that Hollywood is frankly anti-Nazi, and is. depicting accurately the conditions which Hitler ‘has created in
Europe “We. all know that ‘murder and rape are truths, too,” Mr. Clark said, “but that does ‘not justify them. Murders sometimes incite -lynchings. Public portrayal of these things can be dangerous. “This subcommittee is investigating ‘charges that movie people are whipping up pro-war hysteria. Mr. Wwillkie’s assumption that gambling with the lives of millions. of American boys is justified because cruelty has been committed in Europe scarcely holds water.” © The Clark committee ‘is in recess until next Tuesday.
