P.). —The Government set up-a new “tribunal of state” today with absolute power to judge persons accused of activities “prejudicial to French interests.” The tribunal has two sections, one at Paris, dealing with cases in the German-occupied zone, and one at Lyons, to try cases in the unoccupied zone. The new court, from which there is no appeal, was de-’ cided upon at last week’s Cabinet meeting.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.; Sept. 10 (U. P.) —Federal Labor Conciliator Virgil Finch said today that “provided we can get somewhere” he would try to arrange a conference between an American Newspaper Guild committee and the management of the Birmingham Post, which suspended publication last Saturday as a result of a guild strike. More than 100 employees of the afternoon newspaper, not members of the A. N. G., met last night and voted to petition the National Labor Relations Board for an election to determine the collective bargaining agency. The Post guild unit is composed of 38 members of the circulation and editorial departments. Finch said that the move by the non-guild members “would take a long time and we want to settle this now.” |’ In addition to wage increase demands, the guild unit is seeking the guild shop.

MARTHA RAYE HELPS SOLDIERS IN CRASH

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 10 (U. P.). —Martha Raye, movie comedienne, helped extricate four soldiers from their overturned automobile and took them to her home for treatent, Van Nuys police Teported
