ITs NOT ONLY PATRIOTIC choose, Ainerican cotton to dramatize your home. And every lady, certainly, with a spark of drama wants to have at least a glamorous dressing table in her life. If you've

‘One of the newest conceits for

- this fall is the combination of pastel

plaid and eyelet-embroidered cottons. Use plaid for chair slipcovers and stool seat-cushions and add full-gathered skirts and flounces of white eyelet-embroidered cotton. It’s smart to use a solid color sateen foundation under the skirt. Just as attractive and perhaps even more

While perhaps a little more expense sive than wood blinds, their dura bility. should make up for extra cost, since they are said not to warp, tare nish, chip or corrode. Also the fine, smooth surface does not encourage dust to cling; an occasional light brushing keeps them shining. * The platinum-like finish diffuses a pleasing but never glaring light and it harmonjzes nicely with any decoration sche

that beginner sewers can make with professional skill with the little ruffler attachment in the modern sewing machine kit. Youll be glad to know that this little gadget dispenses with ‘basting and makes the task as easy as stitching a straight seam. When it comes to attaching the dressing table skirt use snap-fasten-er tape to anchor the skirt to the table. One part is fastened to the frame of the table with thumb tacks. The other part is stitched to the inside top edge of the ruffled skirt. Then, all you need to do is snap it on. quickly. You'll find that this -is a practical, quickremovable system for laundering.

and professionally. Plain skirts. with bound edges are always in good taste and are traditionally right for any season. You don’t have to baste bindings, either; there’s a binder attachment that makes the job foolproof and quick. The trend toward dressmaker ideas in home decoration seems to be growing by ‘leaps and bounds. One of the smartest decorators used a belt-like arrangement of red satin fabric that buckled at front, to form the top band of a dressing table skirt. Below, a crisp-pleated skirt hung to the floor all around the dressing table. With the pleater attachment, you can make ecrisp, precise pleats. Moreover, if your pefsonal dream of boudoir glamour includes appliqued effects, you'll be delighted to know that there’s a zigzagger attachment in modern sew ing machine kits that will do the Job like lightning. The average dressing table is 30 inches high and between 32 and 40 inches in length. Cut 39-inch fabric in. three 1-yard pieces and seam the three together. You will have a piece 117 inches wide which allows for pleats or good full gathers in the skirt. A substitute for the 4inch flounce border at the bottom, should you prefer, is a 3-inch hem that still allows you.plenty of room to work with at the top, whether you plan to attach your skirt to the table with upholstery pins or stitch it to a piece of fabric that may cover the top. If your table has extension arms with a center opening at front, tacking is most practical. Simply split the skirt widths wherever the opening appears on the dressing table.
