By HARRY FERGUSON United Press Sports Editor NEW YORK, Sept. 3—The AllAmericans get another chance tonight fo prove they really are AllAmericans. Quite a.gang of the scroll-and-engraved-watch boys have been assembled from Eastern colleges to do battle with a tough bunch of citizens known as the New York Giants professional football team at the Polo Grounds. It’s the annual Eastern All-Star game, and what hap-

But what happens when you. put so many stars together, stir ‘em up, add a pinch of salt and try to cook up a good football team?’ The answer is that the boys usually get their brains knocked -out. Look what happened to the starry array that ran into the Chicago Bears out at Chicago the other evening. Or, for that matter, look at the record of the Eastern All-Star game. There have been five games pki against the Giants and the All-Stars have lost all but oné of them.

Those Unknowns Won

The lone game that the Eastern All-Stars won was played last year. ‘And that one was won because Stanley Woodward, sports editor of the New York Herald Tribune which sponsors the game for its Fresh Air Fund for Children, decided to try a bold experiment. United Press Staff Correspondent CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind., Sept. 3.—The football situation at Wabash College has been cumulative, growing better year by year until this fall the Little Giants may be expected to give Indiana Cohference foes some real trouble. Forward Stronger

On the other hand, Vaughan said the forward wall would be stronger, and he was elated particularly at the aggressive spirit shown by the team in spring practice. Vaughan has a nucleus of 15 re-| turning lettermen—seven of them seniors—with which to build his 1941 team, but indicated that reserve material was speculative. On hand, however, were at least .13 promising sophomores whom he expected to call on to plug the gaps. “" “The draft so far has not hurt us,” Vaughan said, “Mostly because the boys are not eld enough.” But Randal Pack, a junior who saw action at halfback last year enlisted in the Naval air arm and W. D. Harms, a junior center from EIkhart, also took to the air. Vaugh said several other players were thinking of enlisting. Seven regular linemen were ‘los{ py graduation, among them captain and tackle Tom Ryan. Vaughan nominated as virtually certain starters a brace of senior guards, John Brewer of Aurora, Ill, and Bill Caldwell of Indianapolis. He has a veteran end available in George Walker of Chicago. Four senior backs will be on hand to give the secondary stability. Fred Coffield of South Bend, who developed rapidly last year although he never played football before entering college, probably will start at halfback, Harold Leach of Chicago appeared set for the other halfback post while BUl Hall of Indianapolis Honors Cowdin was slated for ac e quarterbackpost will be in the experienced| NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (NEA).—In
