WHATEVER ELSE, “When Ladies Meet,” at Loew's, is at least distinctive for his casting of femnine stars, Joan Crawford (“A Woman's Face”) and Greer Garson (“Blossoms in the Dust”). The story, taken from Rachel Crother’s stage success and given a few new twists, is woven around the usual situation of a wife who meets “the other woman,” without knowing she is the rival. Instead of disliking each other, they become warm, intimate friends, sharing many confidences. When the wife discovers the part her

IT WOULD TAKE NO WRINKLED veteran to see that technicolor is definitely The Thing. A few years from now a movie film in simple black and white will be quite an oddity. Kindly remember who said that, particularly if it turns out to be right. A good sign of the times will be with us tomorrow, two of them, in fact. for both the Indiana, with “Dive Bomber,” and the Circle, with “Aldma of the South Seas,” will be doing their entertaining in multi-
colors.
preacher, and I do declare, he knew from the New York stage, has been more about acting than any man awarded a new term contract with
Both, of course, are outdoor pictures, more or less, the natural
medium for color movies. “When Ladies Meet,” at Loew's, is what one might term a parlor comedy, or an indoor opus. Technicolor, in this case, does not add quite so much to the picture's attraction. Still, however, any movie would profit by being colored up. Expense, filthy money, is the rub. But once Hollywood gets Dorothy Lamour in the South Sea islands, money is no item. They've decked her out in a pareu, which none but a native would know from a sarong, and thrown in a volcanic eruption to boot.

Love in the Wilds
THE STORY of “Aloma of the South Seas” has to do with— hold your breath—love! Beautiful
South Sea love. Boiled down to essentials, it concerns a three-way campaign between Dottie, Jon Hall and Philip Reed. As a child, Dottie is chosen by the island chief to wed his son (Hall). Hall, however, is sent to America to be educated and when he comes back 15 years
later, he finds that Rival Reed, a |
rather hasty character, has been warming his chair for him, It ends with Reed shooting up the island with gun, Jon and Dottie in each others arms, cooing, and a volcano erupting higher than a kite.

Opening Tomorrow—
CIRCLE—Dorothy Lamour in technicolor and a pareu (an advanced sarong) will be the big attraction. Incidentally, the title is “Aloma of the South Seas” with a cast that includes, besides Dottie, Jon Hall, Lynne Overman, Philip Reed and Katherine deMille. The other one will be John the Great Profile Barrymore in “World Premiere,” with Eugene Pallette, Frances Farmer, Virginia Dale and Ricardo Cortez.
INDIANA—Col. Colling comes forth tomorrow with a single feature, but a long one (more than two hours) and one long awaited —“PDive Bomber,” with Errol Flynn and Fred MacMurray. Also on the bill is the March of Time, “Peace—by Hitler.’
LOEW’'S—Andy Hardy will give way to Joan Crawford and Robert Taylor in “When Ladies Meet,” based on Rachel Crothers’ Broadway hit. The sideline will be “The Get-Away,” with Robert | Sterling, Charles Winninger and | Donna Reed.
