CURTISS AIRPLANES ‘BAG’ 41 NAZI GRAFT

BUFFALO. N. Y., Aug. 15 (U.P). —Maj. Gen. George H. Brett, chief

of the Army Air Corps, has disclosed that Curtiss Tomahawk warplanes, presumably piloted by the British, destroyed 41 and damaged 63 “enemy” aircraft in one sector of the European war between May 15 and June 23. He told workers at the dedication of a new $18,000,000 Curtiss-Wright Corp. plant yesterday that “the product of your workmanship” had brought down 25 “enemy” planes and damaged 25 more in combat. In addition, eight more “probably” were destroyed. Within the same period, he added, they destroyed 16 “enemy” planes ou the ground and damaged 38. He based the figures on reports given Maj. Gen. Henry H. Arnold, chief of the U. S. Army air forces “by an authoritative source.”

USE FLESH OF DEAD IN PLASTIC SURGERY

MOSCOW, Aug. 15 (U. P).—Red Army surgeons say it’s no longer necessary to graft a patient’s own flesh in perform ng plastic surgical operations. They use tissue, “ones and sometimes even blood from corpses. Foreign correspondents were taken through a hospital, formerly a school, where some of the most urgent cases were being treated. They were shown soldiers whose noses and ears had been blown off and who now are recovering with | little trace of disfigurement. The chief surgeon said it seldom| was necessary to transfuse blood | from a corpse because there was an abundance of donated blood in liquid and dried forms.
