HOUSING BODIES STILL LACKING

Indianapolis and 4 Other Major Cities Without Authorities.

Times Special WASHINGTON, D. C., Aug. 8— With the establishment of a Housing Authority in Kansas City, Mo., only Indianapolis and four other cities among the nation's 30 largest remain without public housing programs. The others are Milwaukee, Wis, Minneapolis, Minn., Rochester N. Y,, and Portland, Ore. Among the leaders in city planinterest in planned large-scale public parks, Kansas City has until now been prevented from engaging in public housing by the Missouri Housing Law. The law permitted St. Louis alone to carry on public housing until a recent amendment extended provisions of the law to all cities over 5000. The members of the new board are representative of the many varied local groups interested in public housing. The chairman is a real estate operator. Other members include a woman prominent in social welfare, a labor leader, a Negro civic leader, and a man experienced in commercial and civic affairs. Members serve without pay ane
