FLOWERS are just as particular about their associates as most people. Some plants never should be placed in vases in company with others, Among these are sweet peas, which cause other flowers to wilt. Poppies and mignonette are also harmful to other flowers. The pansy will preserve its beauty and freshness for some time when it is not used with other flowers, but it will fade quickly when other flowers are present. Cut the blossoms of asters when they are three-quarters open. Then place them in water and let them open fully in a cool place. Strip the leaves from the lower part of the stem as they will cause the water to become foul if submerged. Cut iceland poppies in the bud stage when the bulbs have opened enough to show the color of the flower petals. They will open fully and last a long time. Sweet peas will last longer if cut when one or two buds are unopened and the older flowers still fresh. Also remember to cut above the joint made by the stem and the plant. Another strange fact well known fo florists and professional gardeners is that branches of trees and flowering shrubs, such as lilac, apple, showballs and spirea will live longer
