MILK INCREASE “IN CITY STUDIED

Distributors Meet After Higher Price Is Ordered k

For Farmers. Local milk distributors went into gession today at the offices of the Milk Foundation of Indianapolis to determine whether to raise the price of bottled milk here. The distributors’ meeting was called as 4 result of a State Milk Control Board order issued late yesterday increasing the price the distributors must pay dairymen for their Class 1 milk from $2.50 to $2.75 8 hundredweight. As the state order goes into effect Aug. 1, it was expected that the distributors would decide to increase the price of bottled milk l-cent a quart, effective also on that date. This would make delivered milk cost 13 cents a quart and would increase the price of milk sold in groceries from 11 to 12 cents aj quart. The price of cream alsof would increase 1 cent a pint. The State Board also increased the price the dairymen get for milk!

program, is to be heard in a new show called The Great Gildersleeve, starting Aug. 31 at 5:30 over the NBC-Red network. Gildersleeve, in reality Harold Peary, who created and has always played the role on Fibber's show, will devote his entire time to the new program and will be replaced on the Fibber program by Gale Gordon. Peary’s rise is one of the few instances in radio where a character created on one radio program has been {ransplanted to become the star of a big time show of his own. But Gildersleeve enjoyed such popularvity that the sponsors did not hesitate when. they had a chance to sign Peary for the new show. Peary has been in radio 12 years, starting with NBC in San Francisco. In 1936 he joined Fibber McGee and Molly and soon afterwards created the Gildersleeve role. This character, that of the pompous, good natured neighbor, became an instantaneous hit with radio listeners. Before he entered radio, Peary, a native of California, was a singer and actor in stock companies on the New England. ” 2
