OF HARDING, DIES
Former Wealthy Publisher
Was Confined to Sanitarium Since 1933.
TOWSON, Md. July 27 (U. P) — Edward Beale McLean. 55-year-old
former millionaire publisher and one-time close friend of we late President Warren G. Harding, died of a heart attack today at the Sheppard-Pratt Sanitarium. where he had been eonfined since 1933. The former husband of Mrs. Evalyn Walsh McLean, owner of the famed Hope diamond, was for| years publisher and president of] the Washington Post and con-|
nected with the Cincinnati En-| ;
quirer.
| | Before their separation in 1930,!
the Mcleans were recognized as the leaders of Washington society and their combined wealth was so enormous that their first child was dubbed “the hundred million dollar baby.” During the Harding administration, they set up social court at three enormous residences. They were social arbiters to such a point that they rarely went out except to the White House.
The Mclean marriage in 1907
merged the enormous fortune of Evalyn’s father, the late Senator Thomas F. Walsh, who rose from a Colorado prospector to one of the nation’s best-known millionaires, and the wealth of the famous publishing family. The fortunes of the pair began to dwindle late in the "20s and Mrs. McLean shortly afterward filed 2 maintenance suit. In 1933, Mclean went to the Sheppard-Pratt Sanatorium. Later that year he was confined to the institution on a Baltimore court ruling that he was insane. Whenever ‘misfortune struck the McLeans, blame was placed on the fabulous Hope diamond—estimated to be worth $2,000.000—which is reputed to have brought death and ill-luck to scores of persons in the British Empire before Mrs. McLean purchased it.

Yes, let's see what can happen when we neglect our eyes. We can become nervous, irritable, easily fatigued, unable to concentrate, dull — and have headaches — burning eyes —fuzzy vision and many other discomforts. Yet all it takes is an eye examination to find out the condition of our eyes and if glasses are needed, they may be purchased on easy weekly payments.
