WASHINGTON. July 17,~—Prohibition forces, if they make further efforts to ban liquor during the emergency, will be asked to suggest where the Federal Government can

dollars in taxes, to substitute for revenues now being collected from the liquor’ industzy. In the calendar year 1940 the Internal Revenue Bureau collected $721,025,052.65 in excise taxes on spirits, wines, cordials and fermented malt liquors, and special or occupational taxes. In addition, the Customs Commissioner collected $32,339,554. Loss of this revenue would leave a bad gap in the Federal “budget, in spite of the heavy new tax propram about to be laid before Congress by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Kas.), would ban sale or possession of alcoholic liquors on military premises and surrounding areas.
