Thin Wire Makes Spring for Dodging; Gentle Tap Solves Reel Problem. - Big-time photographers have neat

little time-saving technics. When Boris Dobro makes dodgers

‘he pulls a length of thin wire from , the spool, cuts off 'about a foot and winds one end around his thumb, thus making a: loop for.the handle. Then he winds the. other; end. twice around a pencil, making a .simple " ‘but effective spring clip: to hold the various-shaped pieces of cardboard used in dodging, Many folks stick the wire to the cardboard with adhesive tape. Mr. Dobro’s method is much snappier. Doris Day has a special solution for keeping the darkroom towel handy but out of the way. On warm . days a damp turkish towel draped around the neck is no bargain. Some people put a regular towel holder along the edge of the work table. Miss Day prefers that ball-bearing doodad or clip that bartenders: use. Poke the towel into the clip. There's no need to hang it: up tidily. Some Reel Tips

Morris Germain has = mastered spiral. reels in. -both plastic and “metal tanks. Probably: you've had the infuriating experience of having “the roll of film stick about halfway on to the plastic reel. Mr. Germain lays the reel on its side and taps it gently on the table. Then over o the other side and tap again. I nearly always works. like magic, He has a technic, too, for teaching a butter-fingers to 16ad a metal reel. Many have trouble loading because they: hold the reel in. the left hand and push the film on with the right. Mr. Germain says to hold}: the reel up by the tip of the right thumb and forefinger. Then use the left hand to twist the reel round and round, a though it were on a immovable axle. After you get used to this, clip in a piece of film, press it with’ index and middle finger of the left hand against the metal rod just ahead of the clip. Let the film rest in the palm of the right hand, curving it gently and keeping it going straight down. Twist the reel with left hand and he film goes on beautifully.

New, Fine Grain Soup

There’s not much a ‘shutterbug ‘would rather do ‘than try a new soup so, of course, there’s much talk about the new Agfa Finex. A 16-ounce bottle of this, plus two 8-ounce bottles of replenisher are said to have pep enough to develop 30 rolls of B-2 film or its equivalent. Extreme fine grain, no loss of film speed, handy liquid form, these are the virtues claimed for Finex. It is’ said to be something strictly

phenylene - diamine - glycin type of formula, and not one of thes¢ physical or semiphysical developers. Replenisher is added after each - roll processed, and there's no need to increase the developing time. Agfa recommends wetting the film before developing to prevent gir bells.

WORK CENTERS

State Will Get Three, Williams Says on Brief Visit to City.

The creation of 50 workshop centers, integrated to the nation’s and termed the development of a “new migration system,” was announced yesterday by Aubrey Williams, NYA administrator. “Three of them are to be in Indiana. © Mr. Williams visited the NYA of-

ing areas from which’ workers are being drawn, for the most part, from low income families. Through this system, the NYA ‘hopes to cope with the problem of youths leaving their homes to find employment elsewhere when they may be able to contribute a source of much-needed skill to the national defense program. After a period of training in the small residence shops, youths who show enough skill or the ability to learn that skill will be inducted into the workshop centers. While in these centers, maintenance will be provided and the workers will receive g salary of $10
