If, and when you visit the Indianapolis Home Builders’ Association model house—the Mt. Vernon Electro Home—you'll see a huge sign with the letters AW set in the lawn. That sign was put there by the Electric Jeague of Indianapolis and means the model home in MeridianKessler Terrace has received an adequate wiring certificate. AW stands fo radequate wiring and to receive such a certificate means that the electric wiring must meet minimum standards. More and more Indianapolis homes getting these certificates. Although the minimum standards cover seven mimeographed pages and consider everything from special service circuits (water heater, air heaters, pump motors, etc.) to the size of wire for certain voltage, there are certain standards which could apply to any house built by a family of moderate means. HALLS AND STAIRWAYS should have -one ceiling or wall outlet for lighting on each floor to illuminate the head and foot of the stairways and should have multiple controls. There should be one convenience outlet for every 20 feet of hall.
"DINING ROOM AND OTHER DINING AREAS should have one ¢eiling outlet controlled by a threeway wall switch for lighting each such room, with at least two convenience outlets in each room having a floor area of more than 100 square feet. KITCHEN OR KITCHENETTE should have one centered outlet for lighting, controlled by a wall switch and supplementary side’ wall or ceiling outlets to provide local lighting at range, sink, and other work areas. BATHROOM outlets should be placed In the ceiling and one either side of the mirror. Too, there should be a ceiling outlet for vapor-proof
