. . CHRYSLER CORP. which already has built such advanced auto“mobiles as the “Thunderbolt” and the “Newport” (the 500-Mile Race pace car this year), has in its experimental laboratories a radically new streamlined car with engine, transmission and gear ratio specially designed for adaptation to:the body. It was designed in a wind tunnel with research.showing that to btain maximum efficiency with decreased wind resistance, the power system must be engineered to complement the body. Studies showed that at 30 miles an hour the air resistance of a conventional 1941 model car amounts to about 40 per cent of the power requirements. If the air resistance is reduced 50 per cent ‘on the model and the proper engine, transmission and axle ratio accompany it, the reduced power required to move the car would effect. a fuel saving of 25 per cent at that speed. At higher speeds the economy would be greater.
