Bridegroom Will Like Hash! Survey Gives Tips for June Bride
IN JUNE THE BRIDES get all the spotlights, and the bridegroom
“wore navy blue”!
Even cookery columns are so concerned over the
bride’s cake, the bride’s reception, the bride’s breakfast, that the bride-
groom does well to get a kind look.
But when satin has been swapped for seersucker and the bridal bou-
quet exchanged for a mixing spoon, re important, What, then, does a man like? Surveys computed from actual purchases don’t lie, and a recent one conducted by Hotel Management Magazine tells what they order when they eat out—a good guide for brides of today and yesterday! td » 8
STEAK, just as you thought, is a top-notcher, but ahead of it come corned beef and cabbage and—hold on—hash! Men crave salads,” too, but none of your bridge-party concoctions; the male will take a chefls salad bowl every time, be it raw vegetables or *mixed greens. His vegetables are on the starchy side, with potatoes, peas and corn coming in first, but he won't turn down * spinach or carrots if they're on the menu. Fried , onions are a masculine weakness, and bread and butter are a “must,” with biscuits coming in first. Dessert (you guessed it again) will be pie or ice cream, and pie a la mode is heaven right on, the table. He likes plenty of coffee, and recently he’s been liking it black, which means it has to be goed. THE VERY BEST thing to do when you have a cold is to take the doctor’s advice and: stay in bed until you get rid of it. = :- If this isn’t possible, however, the next thing you can_do is to figure out a way to make yourself reasonably presentable before you let anyone outside the family see you. It’s enough of an imposition to subject others to your coughing and sneezing without subjecting. them to a red-eyed, shiny-nosed, swollenlipped appearance also. Thanks to a new dry shampoo mitt, it’s a simple matter to freshen up your hair, even though ‘washing it is against thezdoctor’s rules. Simply sprinkle the toweling mitt with the special dry cleaning powder that’s packed with it, rub the powder into the mitt, put mitt on your hand. Now grasp a lock of hair close to the scalp with your gloved hand and rub briskly, working out tor the ends of the hair. Repeat until every hair has been pulled through the powdered mitt from scalp to tip. . Take Off the mitt, shake T to remove the powder, turn it inside out and put it on again. With the clean surface, go over each lock of. hair to remove every trace of powder. Finish with a thotough brushing. With your hair clean and free from oil—if not beautifully set—you can turn your attention to your slightly swollen face. First, rinse your eyes ‘with a soothing. lotion, then put hot pads on them for a few seconds. Your
cold pads. But don’t. Warm ones will decrease the swollen areas. Cold oxies won't. By all means use a makeup film to keep powder in place. Rouge your cheks lightly. If you have to use a handkerchief constantly, apply indelible lipstick and apply it ever so sparingly. Forget about mascara or other eye makeup. Whatever you do, don’t put layers of fresh powder on over stale during the day. You can’t possibly look your best when you have a cold, but you. certainly can look neat and clean. Removing old makeup and putting on new foundation and powder frequently will help to maintain a spic and span appearance.

. By RUTH MILLETT THE WORKING GIRL who can afford to take a trip when her two weeks’ vacation rolls around spends hours deciding just where she is going and what she is going to do when she gets there. Somehow she manages, during - lunch hours and on Saturday afternoons, to get all her old clothes in shape and buy whatever new ones she can afford, When she cleans up her desk the ‘last _ hight before va“cation, she.is all

weeks’ time witn but one object in view—to enjoy herself. But the working girl who adds up her check stubs and finds she can’t possibly manage to take a trip doesnt bother to make any preparations for her vacation. She lets her clothes go and doesn’t bother to pep them up with the addition of a few new things. She lets vacation time creep up n her without making any but the vaguest sort? of plans. When her friends ask her what she is going to do she says listlessly, “Oh, I don’t know. Ill - probably just putter around the apartment. There’s quite a lot of work-I want to do. And Ill catch up on some sleep I've been missing.” She wastes her precious two weeks - doing odd jobs that could have been squeezed into her working year, going to a few movies and reading a book or two. When it’s over she goes back to her job no more refreshed than when she. left it for the vacation that comes to her only once a year.
SHE COULD HAVE had fun on that vacation if she had planned it as carefully as does the girl who is going to take a trip. She could have had fun if she had put her clothes into good enough order to have a vacation wardrobe, and then asked herself what she had been

wishing all year she had time to do.|
The answer might have been, “To entertain my, friends unhurriedly, not in the rush-home-from-work-and-stop-at- the - delicatessen way I usually have to entertain them.” If that were it, she could have planned her parties well in advance —and, by letting her friends know she was spending her vacation seeing the people she enjoyed, could have filled her two weeks full of fun. - Of course, her answer might have been entirely different—but whatever it was, she could have used her vacation to give her something she wanted—not just to putter away. And then she would have had as much of a vacation from her everyday existence as the girl who could affcrd a railroad ticket to some place else.
