Discussion of vital issues raised by the emergency will have an important place on the program directed by the international president, Mrs. May Moyers McElroy, Washington attorney. Miss Eva Y. Wiles, School 7 principal, will represent the Indianapolis Zonta Club. . “We shall attempt, through’ discussion, to discover specific channels) through which community service can be extended,” said Mrs. McElroy in commenting on the program. “We hope to lay the groundwork} for a program that will, in'co-opéra=~ tion with other community organizations, instill patriotism .and defor those democratic principles on which

Senator to Speak
Senator Cairine B. Wilson, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, member of the Dominion’s upper house since 1830 and first woman to be named to that office, heads a list of distinguished speakers who will discuss problems of international scope. Senator Wilson, chairnfan of the Canadian National Committee on Refugees, will summarize the work of this committee at one of the sessions. Another speaker with an international theme will be Gladys M. Pétch, New York, who will showin an- illustrated lecture the rele of European and American women in defending their homelands. Hemisphere defense, through strengthening the ties of friendship and mutual understanding with women in the Latin-American republics to the south, will be stressed in a talk by Mrs. Arletta Ahrens, of Washington. All three speakers are members of Zonta. : Women leaders in a score of specialized fields will report on activities in ‘which Zonta: International has a special interest. These will include vocational counseling for youth and surveys aimed to find employment for the mature woman; co-operation with other women's organizations in preventing legislation inimical to women, and studies of public affairs. Among those participating will be Mrs. Lena M. Davidson, Glendale, Cal, public affairs chairman; Mrs. Gladys F. Bogue, New York, group action council; Miss Louise C. Grace, Detroit, classification, and Miss Jessie Ekins, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, international relations, Scholarship Award
Announcement will be made during the convention of the winner of the Amelia Earhart scholarship awarded annually to an outstanding woman for graduate work in aeronautical engineerig. The announcement will be made by Mrs. Dorothy McSparran Arnold, dean of women at New York University and scholarship chairman. Canadian members of the organization will report on work carried on under the auspices of the War Services Committees with funds in provided by Zonta Clubs in the United States and Canada. Brief summaries of club activities in their districts will’ be. presented by the six district chairmen. Zonta Indernational is & classified service club, with individual clubs throughout the United States, Canada and Hawaii. In each club membership is limited to one woman executive {in any profession or business. Officers -in addition to Mrs. McElroy are Miss Elizabeth Armstrong; Cleveland, first vice president; Miss Ekins, ‘second vice president; Miss Ruth H. Gates, Evanston, Ill, treasurer, and Miss Harriet C. Richards, Chicago, executive secretary. All have been nominated for re-election. Among festivities planned for delegates is a tour of one of the South’s largest cotton plantations, a barbecue, a cabaret party and a banquet.

Piano Recital Is Tomorrow
Miss Grace Hutchings’ annual June piano recital will be given tomorrow evening at 8:15 o'clock in the Wilking auditorium, 120 E. Ohio St. Her pupils will (be assisted by the Florence Nightingale Juniors’ Glee Club, directed by Miss Margaret Medsker, wha will sing two groups of songs. The Florence Nightingale/Juniors, sponsored by Mrs. Mary R. Noble, will take a silver offering at the door for their British war relief activities. Their next project is the furnishing of money fo equip a second hospital bed for the British War Relief Society. They meet once a week to do war work and, in addition to the giving of the hospital = bed’s furnishings, have knitted an afghan for Bundles for Britain. ; Miss Medsker, ‘a pupil of Miss Hutchings, will play her own composition, “Deep Sea Magic,” and two Cyril Scott selections. The opening of Red Cross activities and a summer house party are included in news of local women's organizations today. i Mrs. Clayton Hunt Ridge, president of the WOMAN'S DEPARTMENT CLUB, has announced the opening of the club’s RED CROSS UNIT for its second year of activities today. The group will meet each Wednesday during the summer from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. All club members may attend. Chairman of the unit is Mrs. Charles H. Smith, with Mrs. Albert E. Cottey as vice chairman. During the last year more than a thousand hours of work resulted in the making of hundreds of articles and several dozen knitted garments.

Dr. Paul Spencer, pastor of the Church of the Stranger in New. York, was to read the marriage service today at°11:30 a. m. for Miss Lucy Ann Balch and the Rev. John E. Wallace of Kansas City, Mo. The
ceremony was to be in the home of Eppert, 3608 Winthrop Ave. The bridal party was to stand in front of the fireplace in the Eppert home, which was to be banked with greenery. Urns of pastel flowers were to stand on either side. - Mr. Eppert was to give the bride in marriage. and William E. Balch, her brother, was to be best man. With a light blue crepe suit, Miss Balch was to wear white accessories and a corsage of orchids. Mrs. Eppert’s costume was to be a dark blue dress with lace inserts.
Following a wedding bremkfast at the Marott Hotel for the families and a few friends, the couple was to leave on a wedding trip." They will be at home after July 5 at 2930 Carlton St., N. E,, Washington. Both are graduates of DePauw University. The bride is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and of Phi Beta Kappa. The Rev. Wallace was graduated recently from the Boston University School of Theology and also attended Yale University. He is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Rite Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edgar Smith of Terre Haute announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Esther to Richard Shenk Michener, son of Mr. and Mrs, Hallis Michener of Kokomo. The ceremony was performed by the Rev, G. 8. Denton, pastor of the Pirst Methodist Church in Owensboro, Ky., at the parsonage on Sate day, Feb. 24, 1940. Mrs. Michener attended Indiana University. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She has been teaching in the Greendale School at Lawrenceburg. Mr. Michener received his B. S. degree from Indiana University and is now a senior in Indiana University School of Dentistry at Indianapolis. He is a member of Delta Upsilon social fraternity and Delta Sigma dental fraterne ity. Mr. and Mrs. Michener will make their home in Indianapolis where Mr. Michenér will complete his work in the school of dentistry.
