Acorn Camp Will Open Nony: Pageant Will Be Season Highlight

~~ WHERE INDIANS last summer moved with surefooted tread at the Acorn Camp north of Carmel, the pioneers this summer will take their stand. This logical progression will begin Monday with the ‘opening of the camp’s 10-week season and inauguration ~ of plans for the Pioneer Pageant at the end of the fifth ~ week of the camping period. Last year the pageant had

an Indian motif. ! The camp is directed by “Herbert A. Sweet, a teacher at Or- - chard School, for both ‘boys and girls of school age. Each day the campers arrive at. 8:30 a. m. ard:are occupied until 4 p. m. with a program of outdoor activities that includes fishing in Cool Creek which meanders through the 40-acre tract, swimming, pony riding, butterfly collecting, handicraft and supervised play. This year they will develop a museum in the cabin which last year served as a mess hall. The children also “take turns” on kitchen police duty and this year their costumes, as they assist with serving of luncheons, will be topped by authentic chefs’ caps. : 8 » = os » #8 The biggest: project. at the camp this year: will be the finishing - @f a new mess’ “hall ion: which former campers have started avork, the building of a log cabin ‘to serve as a girls’ playhouse after it is used in the Pioneer Pageant, the construction of a cement dam ~ in the creek and the building of ‘outdoor stone ovens by boy campers. On Mr. Sweet's staff this year will be Miss Florence Gipe, who will be in charge of girl campers, assisted by Miss Mary Elizabeth Fletcher and Miss Jane Sewell. Mr. Sweet's assistants in super- \ vising bay campers will be James Jeffery, Calvin Hamilign, and Douglas White. '
