Complains About Tipsy Draftees
BUFFALO, N. Y, June 12 (U. P.).—Maj. Joseph S. Snyder, com=manding officer of the local induction center, expressed concern today over the frequent arrivals of intoxicated selectees, and warned local draft boards that it was their responsibility “to deliver the men for final examination in proper physical condition.” Maj. Snyder revealed that sevveral men have been turned over to police on public intoxication charges following their arrival at the induction center “under the influence of liquor and staggering.” He said he had taken the action for the protection and safekeeping of men “who apparently
had carried the celebration of |
their departure too far.”

But the current study indicates ‘how far a majority might be will= ing to go, if milder courses do not bring results. Voter comments show two ideas uppermost in the minds of those who favor a strike ban in defense industries: (1) the belief that American defense has been too slow, that every moment counts; and that “production is vital” to our national safety and (2) the feeling that if the Government can draft men to serve in the Army for $21 a month, it should be able tol;
