P.). ~The Office of Production Management today served notice on civilian consumers that the frills are coming off such things as clothing, radios and hardware and that they'll have fewer choices to make among the things they buy. The OPM’s idea is that if consumer goods are made simpler and in less variety, more production facilities will be available for defense requirements. Donald Nelson, OPM director of purchases, revealed that a program for simplification of civilian merchandise has received Presi-: _dent Roosevelt’s approval and that it will be undertaken within a matter of weeks.

P.).—The National Headquarters of the - America First Committee announced ' today that 103 branch chapters of the committee had been . formed since President Roosevelt's May 27 address proclaiming an unlimited national emergency National Director R. Douglas Stuart Jr. said the new charter Shplications, including 47 in one day, indicate that “the overwhelming majority of Americans are de- . termined to keep out of other pepole’s wars.” He said the new chapters were set up in 22 states, including the first chapters: in Maine, Kansas, Wyoming, Tennessee and Louisiana.
