It grossed $1,500,000 at nightly takes ranging from $140 to $2000. Its motion picture rights brought in $150,000 and royalties. It has had five actors in the leading (Jeeter Lester) role—Henry Hull, James Barton, James Bell, Eddie Garr and -| Will Geer. . . The earthy play, dramatized by
well’s novel, got a bad press in the beginning and had a struggle to keep going for a few weeks but as it continued through the years it pull up regular customers. A road troupe headed by John Barton, uncle of James Barton, is keeping’ the show ‘alive on the subway circuit and will start a four in Los Angeles Aug. 25.

BRIDEGROOM RAY RETURNS ‘TO WORK
HOLLYWOOD, June 6 (U. P.).— Charles Ray, the country yokel of the silent screen who always made good, has returned to work at the studio after pausing in his comeback attempt in talking pictures to marry Yvonne Guerin, French actress. . Beverly Ray, sister of the actor, and a few friends attended the private ceremony at the Wilshire Wedding Chapel. It is the second marriage for Mr. Ray and the first for Miss Guerin. HOLLYWOOD, June 6 (U. P.).—Betty Grable’s legs, once hailed the “most beautiful” in Hollywood, will be sacrificed to the cause of drama, 20th-Cen-tury-Fox said today. Director Henry King has de- ° cided to transform her from a musical comedy star to a dramatic actress. . From now on, Mr. King said, Miss Grable. will act with her legs suitably draped. - -

A good example of the Duchin style with plenty of his keyboard runs and trills. Both vocals score. Kay Kyser's “With a Twist of the Wrist” and “Play, Play Tina!” should be well received. The former is Mr. Kyser at his best, or pretty near it anyway. “International Rumba” (vocal

in Spanish) by the Lecuona Cuban Boys..Two of the best Latintempoed offerings recently avail-
able. The Cuban Boys make their
music sound authentic.
“What D’Ya Hear From Your Heart?” and “Talking to the

Ray McKinley. The first is the one the Bradley fans will like. It rocks. “Let's (Get Awsy From It All” and “The Band Played On” by Raymond Scott and orchestra. Mr. Scott doesn't do so well with waltzes, The first piece is all right, though. » FROM OKEH: Billie Holliday sings “Let’s Do It” and “Georgia. on My Mind.” She is an expert.
