"A resolution adopted last night 3 after a two-day conference of. deler 4

gates from: the American Farm Bus

Telit ‘Federation, the National ‘Grange and the National Council of Farmer Co-operation said: : “Agriculture must be accorded equal recognition with industry and labor and be’ properly represented dn all national defense agencies by persons who are familiar with agricultural problems and who have the approval of national farm organizaflons” ” + It said “National safety demands that immediate action be taken to provide adequate means for continuing operations”. when labor or other ‘disputes threaten defense production and distribution. . It is vital, the resolution sdid “to . develop and maintain: a fair economic balance between farm prices, ustrial prices and the wages of bor on ‘a level that will assure | production and consumption of. goods and services.” : 1 The resolution also called for payment “insofar as practicable” of defense expenditures “from current income” and for taxation on “all tinwarranted profits of industry, Ise bor and agriculture.” Forty-five delegates attended the conference, which was suggested after a similar meeting May 1 and 2 of the National Milk Producers Federsuon,

-By JOE COLLIER Admiral Andy Miller of the Lake Sullivan duck and. goose fleet is concerned about the nautical behavior of a certain family of Canada geese, including—gander, goose and seven 1941 goslings.” The parents are the: same ones who last year had a family of" «six

and spent all summer and winter| ‘utterly - unable to comprehend a

proteciing them from the .seamy side of life. by ‘swimming them about the lake in a convoy system and challenging everything that came near them, partictiarly other geese. Well, times have changed. The parents had another family of seven this year and they promptly discarded as obsolete the ‘last year family of six. Dropped thém as if they had been galley. vessels in a super-dreadnaught era. : On top of that, the parent gees

The convoy system'is “out.” would not even allow the last year’s family to come close enough to inspect. the new crop. When one of the 1940 six comes within 50 feet of the new ones, the gander lowers

his head, sets up a mean hiss and : |takes after the interlopers. Father ‘goose can and does take on all six of ‘them at once, what's more.

"At first the 1940 models appeared situation - which plunged them at

fone operation from the worst kind

of paternalism to the most flagrant sort of: gosling neglect. They still don’t seem to understand ‘it any too well, according to Andy. At least once a day, now,

'théy gather in neutral waters (out-

side the 50-foot limit) and gawk and complain and keep a close eye

on their papa while trying to strike

up an.acquaintance with their blood relatives.

But the 1941 family blandly ignores them. In fact, so certain are they of the protective convoy of their parents, the new goslings appear to fear neither man, nor beast nor. fowl. ° The parent geese do not seem to mind the hundreds upon hundreds of ducks and ducklings on the water—also the largest launching in the lake’s history. Admiral Miller estimates {hat there are now more than 1000 of this year’s crop and that there are 500 more in the nests. The general health of the ducks seems to be better this year, too, probably hecause of the large quantity ‘of moss on top of the water. ' This, Andy thinks, helps their feeding. Incidentally, the picture of the convoy of geese was taken by Frank N. Wallace, State Conservation Department director.
