A committee in charge of selling . the model home after it has been open for inspection is headed by Norris Shelby. Other members are Robert Schrieber, Mr. Neeves,* Forest Kellogg, Frank Gates, Walter Evans and Arthur Smock. The Horhe Builders Association this week named Mr. Smock and Robert L. Mason to represent the group again on the 1942 Home Show board of _ directors.

INSIDE DAMP SPOTS . HAVE MANY CAUSES
Damp spots on the inside surface of wood frame exterior walls could b€ due to improper flashing at heads of door and window openings and cracks at door and window frames; seepage of water down through the . wall from the roof or cornice; in cold climates, under certain conditions, condensation of moisture within the wall; or leaking or sweating of plumbing and heating pipes.

If you're looking for a place to build which has all the conveniences of modern city living yet ‘has the charm of a wooded vacation retreat, you should consider Indian Lake.
Some 14 miles northeast of the Circle, Indian Lake is the largest body of water in central Indiana. Around the 80-acre lake (which was formed in 1928 by the construction of a 650-foot earth dam across Indian Creek) are 197 lots, most of them wooded. Four homes are already built and one of them is occupied. Martin C. Eastburn of the United ‘Mortgage Co., sales agent for the addition, will show one of the completed homes Sunday afternoon. To the left of the entrance in this home is a large guest closet with a window. The tan striped wall paper is the same as that in the living room which opens from the entrance alcove. Across the entire front of the living room is a triple small-paneled window from the ceiling almost to the floor overlooking the bluff and lake. An archway leads to the dining room, which has a chintz patterned paper, and windows on two sides, one of them overlooking the lake, Back of the dining room is the kitchen with block linoleum flooring in blue star pattern. The steel cabinets have 20 separate compartments and counter and splash of red marbelized linoleum with blue
over the sink. i A breezeway leads to the singlecar garage. A hallway off the living room on the right of the entrance leads to the bath and two bedrooms. Like the living room, the front bedroom overlooks the lake. The woodwork here is finished in pale green to harmonize with the green wall paper which has. a nosegay pattern. The other bedroom. (at the front of the house) has peach woodwork and peach paper with a bouquet pattern. Both bedrooms have large closets and the hallway has a linen closet with four shelves. The hall paper is a ‘silver stripe over a blue background. The bath has black marbleized linoleum flooring running up on the walls about three inches to a chromium trim. Above this are green marbleized linoleum . walls. There is an inbuilt tub and shower and all
fixtures are of modern chrome and enamel. : «

The Conveniences—and Bass
The home is built against the bluff so that the basement opens onto the ground level on the lake side. A doorway makes it possible to store boats there. There is a hotair furnace, a coal room, a pump room (for the four-inch drilled well), and a large space for storage. A feature which will appeal to women is the extra electric outlets. There are four in each bedroom, two in the dining room and eight in the living room. Indian Lake is a haven for wild duck and bass and the. owner of each lot has exclusive fishing rights. It can be reached by Road 67 through Oaklandon then past Sunnyside following the addition’s markers.
DECORATED SHADES ~ PEP. UP. INTERIORS
Window shades when styled with paint add to. interior decorative treatments. Colored or stenciled to blend with mural designs, shades become decorative features rather than drab, blank areas devoid of interest. Paint for shades must be very thin and form a highly adhesive film, sufficiently elastic as well to prevent cracking when rolled. Experience has proved that best results are obtained by adding a small amount of good, hard-drying varnish to soft paste white lead which has been reduced with turpentine to an easy flowing mixture. Add colors-in-oil to obtain the tint desired. Stretch the shade out taut on a level surface before flowing the paint on evenly with a wide, soft brush. The paint must be absolutely dry before the shade is rerolled.
ODD LOTS WASTE LAND
Lots with sharp-pointed corners waste land because the resulting wedge-shaped areas have little or no utility. Such lots also constitute poor building sites. Sharp-angled lots can be avoided by planning streets to intersect at right angles and by making side lot lines perpendicular or radical to street lines. When minor streets join a thoroughfare at sharp angles, visibility is greatly impaired for both motorists and pedestrians.

OWN EXPENSES
Peters, State Head, Quotes. U. S. Report; Shows Large Building Gain.
All administrative expense of the Federal Housing Administration for the fiscal year ending June 30 will be paid out of current revenues from insurance premiums, fees and investments, R. Earl Peters, FHA director for Indiana, reported today. Quoting the seventh annual report of the agency, Mr. Peters also said: that more than $8,000,000 will be added to the insurance reserves having been realized from current revenues greater than current expenses. The ' report shows further that there was available in the Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund (as of December, 1940) ,852,832 from which any losses firicurred through defaulted properties were paid.
2311 Properties Default
Nationally, 2311 properties have been acquired after default out of the 711,177 mortgages actually insured on one-to-four-family houses involving $3,047,419,016 since the agency was formed in 1934. In that period, a total of 3,009,224 property improvement and new construction loans under the $2500 maximum were insuggd with the dollar volume amounting to $1,242,959,262. In the same period 317 rental housing and group housing projects involving $126,952,675 were insured under Sec 207 of the National Housing Aet. . The report stresses the fact that 1940 was a notable year for both FHA and the home-building industry. It shows that the recovery in home building, which began in 1935, gained further momentum and carried the new dwellings level to the highest point since 1928. During the year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics esti=zated 540,000 dwelling units were built in the nonfarm areas of -the country. This is an increase of 16 per cent over 1939 and 10 times larger than the depression low of 1933. There were more homes built in 1940 than in 1929, when 509,000 units were constructed.
PAINT CANVAS PIPES
No special paint or method of application is required for decorating canvas pipe surfaces. Merely apply three ‘coats of good quality flat paint, like that specified for wall board and plaster. For complete assurance as to the quality of the ingredients and consequent durability, it is advisable to mix the priming coat on the job from three parts (by.volume) of paste: white lead, four parts lead mixing or lead reducing oil.. Follow with two topcoats of equal parts of the two ingredients tinted as desired with paste colors-in-oil,

He’s not the type to be kicked around for somet he didn’t do. One of two things was bound to happen. Either Chris would get into a rip-snorting battle or he'd leave town before Commencement. So I dumped him in the cooler where he’d be safe.” “Oh, Tony” Paula wailed, “why didn’t you tell me?” “You didn’t give me a chance, Paulie. You simply decided I was a five-star heel.” j Paula flushed. sorry. But . . .” “It’s all right, Paulie. Let's forget about it.” “Gosh, Tony, you were swell tonight,”. she sighed. “I—I was proud of you.” “Thanks,” Tony said coolly. “Well, here we are, Paulie. If youd like to, you come, to the jail with me in the morning when I get Chris out.”
“I... Td liketo, Tony.”
“Okay, about 8. Good night, Paulie.” . “Good night, Tony . . . dear.” Paula added the last word under her breath. She stood on the porch of the Gamma Tau house until he was out of sight. Then, with trembling hands, she opened the door and went inside. (To, Be Concluded)

Volume Buying Is in These Limits, FHA Expecrt Tells : Real Estate Men.
Any real estate program for volume production must be aimed at about 50 per cent of the population with incomes from $1200 to $3000 yearly, Thomas M. Gregory of Cincinnati told the Indianapolis Real Estate Board yesterday. Mr. Gregory, who is district director of the Federal Housing Administration, was brought here by Mark Ferree, business manager of The Times. Special guests of the Board were officers of The Times: Ralph Burkholder, editor; Norman Isaacs, managing editor; Louis D. Young, advertising manager; William B. Nicewanger, controller, and Mr. Ferree. . Buy Homes Early
“It used to be that most persons lived half their lives before they could afford a home but this condition does ‘hot prevail now,” Mr. Gregory said. “Under plans of the Federal Housing Administration, young people now can embark toward building up an estate through home ownership. Through this plan a person having reasonable savings, a regular position and a favorable credit rating can-purchase a home on’ monthly payments equal to or less than rental.” He said that ' reduced interest rates have been a contributing factor in encouraging home ownership because a substantial proportion of what has heretofore been consumed in interest can now be applied toward reducing principle obligations.

STORM WINDOWS CUT FUEL BILLS Storm windows are a profitable investment for homes in localities where continued cold weather makes the fuel bill a maintenance problem. Heat passes so readily. through single sash construction ' that ‘as much escapes on :the average as through all of the remaining wall
comprehensive storm sash installation may well reduce heat waste up to 50 per cent regardless of further mural insulation with accompanying savings of from 25 per cent to 30 per cent in fuel consumption, Savings in fuel alone—not to mention the increased comfort—invariably pay for the windows in from one to three years.
