his folks can be found,” the Rev. Mr. Anderson explained. “We’ll give directions: and counsel to any strangers who request it and lend a hand if anybody gets sick and needs us,” he said. “In other words,” Father Lindemann added, “we’ll fit in in any spiritual or friendly way we can.” Good Neighbors The clergymen are good neighbors, co-operating constantly in civic and inter-faith activities in Speedway City where they hold the only two pastorates in the suburb. Father Lindemann is the priest at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, while the Rev. Mr. Anderson is the minister at the Speedway Christian Church. Be cause Father Lindemann’s church is near the race track it is named for St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers. Church Gets Stature Next year, visitors, coming into Indianapolis from the West to the race, will be an 8-foot statue of St. Christopher on the Catholic church lawn. It is now being made by Harry Donate, Bloomington, Ind., sculptor, and presented by a personal friend of the pastor who wishes his name withheld. It is a dream of Father Lindemann’s, cherished ever since he has been in Speedway, come true. The statue is full of life and action, Father Lindemann says, showing St. Christopher striding across a stream with the Christ Child on his shoulder. Its theme is from the legend of St. Christopher, inspiration of many paintings, poems and stories. Ever since the tryouts began, both the Rev. Mr. Anderson and Father Lindemann have been frequenting the Motor Speedway, talking with drivers and inviting them and other visitors to church.
