The trial of two former officers ‘of the defunct Indianapolis Firemen’s -Credit Union, Inc, charged with embezzling $50,000 of the inSstitution’s funds, will last more than a -week, attorneys in the case said today. The first witness in the trial, Miss Mary Louise Riley, former bookkeeper for the credit union, who testified yesterday, continued-on the witness stand today, identifying more than 1000 checks. ~~ The checks allegedly were written on the union’s funds by Cecil Scott, former secretary-treasurer of the union, and John Staab, chairman of the advisory committee. Mr.’ Scott and Mr. Staab are the de- . fendants in the case. . Detailed records of the credit
union’s business for the last 10 years will be identified and shown to the jury, attorneys said. : The’ case is not expected to go to the jury before the end of next

Daniel 'T. Weir, for 42 years on the staff of the Indianapolis Public Schools, the last 17 as assistant superintendent, today announced his retirement effective June 30.
Mr. Weir began his career with the schools here ir, 1899 as head of the physics department at Manual Training High School. For 16 years he was a supervisory principal and for three years a district superintendefit. In 1922 Mr. Weir became assistant superintendent, and he has served in that capacity since, except for a year and a half when he taught mathematics at Technical High School in 1928 and 1929. On Jan. 1, 1930, he became acting superintendent and served until Aug. 1 of the same year when the late Paul C. Stetson was made superintendent. In 1937 he and Mrs. Weir took a two-month tour of Europe, visiting England, France and Germany. . For many years Mr. Weir was-on the Indiana University faculty during summer sessions. He is a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and has been a member of educa-
tional organizations for.many Jears.
