When the o dinance was first presented a ar, the Council stalled to see what the milk industry would” do. The industry failed to agree on the measure, so the Council let the ordnance go by the board. This time, with a group in the Hndustry determined to see the measure pass, the chances of the ordinance are regarded @s much better.
Playground Safety
In a survey of ‘playground accidents, the City Recreation Department has found that most mishaps occur because of poor organization on the grounds. Leave the youngsters to their own devices, the department believes, and sure enough someone will fall off a swing or trip over a sandbox. Last year, the City Recreation program succeeded in getting through the season without any injuries more serious than one broken collar bone. That was very nearly an all-time safety -zecord. This season, however, major injuries aren’t being allowed to happen and probably won't if the new safety program is is followed to the letter. Playground instructors are being trained in preventing accidents by doing the obvious things to, prevent them. ‘1. Putting soft tanbark © under slides to break the descent. - - 2. Marking safety ‘zones around apparatus. 3. Removing all loose stones and glass. 4. Supervising use of apparatus carefully. 5. Keeping small" children away from the more vigorous games of older children. 6. Inspecting all equipment daily before it is’ used.
