SHRINERS PLAN “LIGHT PARADE

| Will Use Millon B Bulbs When 18,000 Members Meet June 9-13.

A parade spectacle unrivalled in

~ all of Indianapolis’ parading history|

is being planned as a highlight of . the Shriners’ Imperial Council Session embracing all North American , Units here June 9 to 13.

‘The uniforms: of more than ‘8000 marchers

through down-| -

town Indianapolis will be trimmed about one lion electric bulbs of varied colors with the instruments of 50 bands also trimmed in

: lights. Juige Myeis “this “tunalnation” parade is scheduled for . Wednesday night, June 11, and the other major procession is scheduled

. for 10 a. m. Tuesday, June 10.

Judge Dewey E. Myers, potentate . of the Indianapolis council, is one of ‘the busiest men in the city these days- preparing for the event, the first time it has been held in Indianapolis since 1919.

“The preparations are about like the Army would have to make in the temporary encampment of a whole division of soldiers,” he said.

‘Man Mountain* Dean Here

Between 18,000 and 20,000 Shriners from ail parts of the North American continent. are expected in Indianapolis that week. ° ‘As . drum major heading’ the Georgia delegations in the parades will be “Man Mountain” Dean, the noted wrestler and movie actor.

Another celebrity to appear in the marching ‘units will be Harold Lloyd, the movie comedian, who is imperial outer guard, the first rung on the long ladder of imperial posts.

Taxing the Indianapolis Shrine . staff to capacity is the problem of ~ housing accommedations for the visitors. Every aVvailable hotel room has been reserved and: the reservations are spilling out into private hemes all over the city.

Hold Miniature . 500-Miler -

. Another highlight of the event will be a “Miniature” 500-Mile race . at the Speedway with regular driv“ers from the Memorial Day race Participating. .

“Everything that you see in the -. regular 500-niile race will be in this ‘ event,” Judge Myers said. ‘The only difference will be the distance. It will be only 50 miles long but _there’ll be tire changes and all the pit operations of a big race.” In connection with the race there will be a transportation pageant. Floats and skits depicting all stages in ithe progress of transportation wilk be in the pageant. (
