"Little Foxes"
“THE LITTLE FOXES,” with pert Bette Davis in the lead role, is being filmed now by RKO. It's from the play by the same name by the same Lillian Hellman who copped the Drama Critics’ award this year for her “Watch on the hine.” . Movie exhibitors the country over (and that includes Indianapolis) are complaining that they're not getting any of the defense coin floating around. And they don't know why or what to do “Kiss the Boys Goodbye.” current fare at the Civic Theater, is to be held over through next Saturday Screen rights to “The Night Before Christmas,” Broadway money-maker by Laura and 8. J. Perelman, have been gobbled up by Warners. That makes seven stage successes within the last two seasons to go Warner-ward . Janet Blair, vocalist with the
late Hal Kemp, has put her John Henrietta on a Columbia contract. Upon completion of their | current picture, “In the Navy,” the Andrews Sisters will make a | personal appearance tour of the | country—and so we're waiting | for advices from the Lyric management.

Now's Your Chance
ITS TOO late for the Pulitzer prize now to report that they're going to make a movie out of that novel called “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” written by a Mr. E. Hemingtay., The matter at hand is an announcement from Paramount that the public will be given a sav-so in the casting. In its usual

restrained manner, Paramount's parrots have written that this decision was prompted by “a steady stream of letters from all parts of the nation and Canada as well, containing queries as to who will play the various roles and keeping WHITE HOT THE BURNING QUESTION: How are you going to put ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ on the screen?” And so while the question is still white-hot, get out your firebrand and burn one through to Paramount, Just tell ‘em what you think right out! You know what I think? I think Judy Canova is perfect for Maria and Johnny Weissmuller is precisely the gent to play that young engineer guy, Robert. Mazie, stop chewing that gum and take a letter to Paramount.
VICHY TAKES MOVIE CONTROL
VICHY, May 12 (U. P.). — Reorganization of the French movie industry has been ordered by the government. Producers, exhibitors and distributors were instructed to hand over their properties to a new committee, thus transferring the industry entirely from private to government control. Jews already have been banned from the movie industry. Arvan administrators have been named for firms prev iously owned or controlled by Jews

MULES, NOT STARS, GET ATTENTION
HOLLYWOOD, May 12 (U. P).— Actress Merle Oberon and other stars in Alexander Korda's forthcoming film, “Illusions,” are piqued because two mules on a movie set in the San Fernando Valley received more attention than they. The temperature was nearly 100 and flies were almost infuriating, Miss Oberon said. The film players had to fight the flies away themselves, but the mules had flunkies to spray them..

GRANT, HELLER KIN, RESIGNS ROAD POST
Russell V. Grant, personnel director of the State Highway Commission for the past four years, has
resigned his state position, effective May 15, it was learned today. James D. Adams, Highway Commission chairman, denied reports that he had discharged Mr. Grant, a brother-in-law of Dick Heller, patronage secretary during the Townsend administration. Mr. Adams said he had felt that there was not sufficient personnel turnover to justify the hiring of a
personnel director and that he had |
talked it over with Mr. Grant and that the latter had resigned. The chairman said that the position, which paid a salary of $250 a month, would not be filled. Mr. Grant could not be reached for comment. State House observers have noted that a large percentage of the close political associates of Mr. Heller have been asked to resign since Governor Schricker took office.
