BEL ROSE ASKS AREA ANNEXED
League Says Open Sewers In Neighboring Region Menace Health.
Open sewers, endangering the health of those living in the area of the State Fairgrounds, prompted annexation action by the Bel-Rose Civic League last night. The group, holding its monthly meeting, passed a resolution asking for the annexation by the city of the community north of 52d St. which although partially developed, still has several open sewers. Bel-Rose is bounded by the Fair-|: grounds, 52d St., and Keystone and |: Guilford Aves. The area residents wish to be annexed lies between 52d and 59th Sts, Keystone Ave. and the Monon tracks
Board Has No Authority
Previous efforts by the league to correct the sewer problem has been stalled because the City Health Board has no authority on county property The annexation would: give city officials the right to order: the sewers improved 3 Under the leadership of C. Titus]: Everett, club president, the group also voted to request more adequate | 3 bus service and better zoning. A community house for the league and the community they represent is already in the. blueprint stage and an affiliation with the Indianapolis Federation of Community Civic Clubs is planned.

THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES Hope Shorter Parade Route Will Lure State Legionnaires
3 i} —
Times Special SOUTH BEND, Ind, April 29.— Committee members in charge of the annual convention of the De-
partment of Indiana, American Legion, believe they have found a way to make the one this year the largest .in the organization's 23-year history. They cut the parade route of the convention one half of what it has been in other years. The parade this year will cover only 2.3 miles. “This alone,” parade committee members said, “should be enough to increase the 1941 attendance.” The convention will be held here Aug. 16-19. The increased interest

[to the conditions in Europe and
Asia and the position of the United States in relation to the war. “While the war was raging at the
time of last year’s convention,” leaders said, “the situation this year is much changed even from that time as far as the United States is concerned. The Selective Service Act, our huge defense program, and other equally important measures have come into being since the last convention.”

planes appeared over the downtown section and cruised lazily over the Circle—keeping their distance high above the tall buildings—leaving the actual “dive-bombing” to the pigeons which swooped around over| the heads of the spectators. . | Instead of bombs, the “invaders” dropped multi-colored leaflets. But| because of their height, most of the leaflets floated out of reach. The crowd, however, received a direct hit from a batch dropped | from the top of the Monument. | The raid was heralded by warn-| ing sirens from police motorcycles] and after vhe planes passed over, more sirens screamed. The second] time it was city fire apparatus called to put out the make-believe fires which broke out as result of the make-believe bombs. The arrival of the “Iron Duke,” relic of the Battle of Britain, injected a bit of realism in the demonstration. The olive-drab, bomb-scarred and shrapnel-beaten mobile tea kitchen stopped for everyone to get a good look. The “dive-bombers” were furnished By the Indianapolis Aero Club and Col. Roscoe Turner.
