Bry ROGER BUDROW The chances of getting a job now in Indianapolis are considers ably better than they were only two months ago. Last week more than 700 persons obtained work through the local office of the Indiana Employment Security Division, the accompanying Indianapolis Times Business Summary shows. In i ITT the latter part R of February the weekly number was around 400. More persons are applying here for jobs, too, but the increase hasn't been as great p roportionately as the number obtaining jobs. Roger Budrow In the latter part of February about 850 apblied each week for work. This number rose to nearly 1500 during the week when there was a big Job registration drive on but has now receded to about 950 a week. Indianapolis utilities also are forging ahead of last year. Indianapolis Power & Light Co.'s electricity output, which two months ago was running nearly | 8 per cent ahead of the same 1940 period, is now about 12': per cent greater than last year at this time. Pumpage of Indianapolis Water Co. two months ago was more than 3 per cent under the 1940 period. This gap has been narrowed steadily until this week water pumpage shows a gain «over { last year. Indianapolis Railways likewise has turned the tables and is now ahead of 1940. Two months ago the number of telephones in use in the Indianapolis district of the Indiana Bell Telephone Co. was about 8!: per cent greater than in the same 1940 period. Today this gain has been widened to more than 9 per cent. For the second consecutive week, sales of the larger Indian- ! apolis department stores showed the greatest gain over the same week last year of any city in the Seventh Federal Reserve District. Local department stores’ sales in the April Jo week were 48 per cent
