Hotel Bible Saves Day for Judge

PITTSBURGH, April 24 (U, P.).—Federal Judge Robert M. Gibson was making good progress today in the writing of an opinfon until he decided he needed a Bible to aid him. A search of his law library and other offices in the Federal Building failed to disclose a copy of the Bible, So Acting U. S. District Attorney George Mashank went to his hotel room to get the Gideon Bible there for the judge.

OFFER DEFERMENT TO RED CROSS DOCTORS

WASHINGTON, April 24 (U. P)). — Selective Service Headquarters said today that any young physician of draft age who wants to volunteer for service abroad in Red Cross medical units may be deferred from military service under the draft law. Officials said the deferment plan was worked out with Red Cross officials, and that it applies solely to Red Cross medical work in England and other foreign countries.

CLAIM BABY SOLD IN INSTALLMENT DEAL

PITTSBURGH, April 24 (U. P.) — A homeless West Virginia couple

vestigated their story that they had “deeded” their four months old baby to a Pittsburgh couple for a $5 “down payment” in an installment deal. The couple, who said they turned over their baby to the Pittsburghers three weeks after the baby was born last December, was arrested for failure to pay a bill at a local hotel.
