adn for a woman not to tell husband that she Knows an er woman and sometimes it is better for her to bring the whole thing out in the open. The affair may break up much more easily and quickly if the husband is not obliged to defend his action to his wife by assuming more than he actually feels. So often his choice of another woman was an aggression against his wife that he is secretly pleased to have her discover his secret. On the other hand where the man has real respect for his wife's opinion the disclosure means the end of the affair to him. He is willing to sacrifice the minor satisfaction of a passing attraction for the major satisfaction of a happy marriage. The trouble with most women who are obliged to put up with bad treatment from their husbands is that they become martyrs. There is a difference between the woman who accepts her situation in a realistic manner and makes the best of it for the sake of her children, and the woman who never ceases to pity herself and who never lets her husband forget that he is responsible for the ruin of her life. The first woman inspires respect whereas the second is sure to be despised. JANE JORDAN,
